Want to add a Sterling Silver Scindapsus Treubii Moonlight to your houseplant collection? They are beautiful and easy to care for! Here’s my complete care guide!
Looking for a beautiful, easy to care for houseplant? How about a Sterling Silver plant! These plants have beautiful thick green leaves with silver coloring to each leaf. They really shimmer and glow!
I paired a Sterling Silver Scindapsus with a Cebu Blue pothos on my mantle for a dramatic, shimmery look.
Let’s talk about this gorgeous houseplant and if it might be a good fit for your home!
What is the Sterling Silver Plant?
The sterling silver plant is a gorgeous Scindapsus plant with thick dark green leaves with a silvery sheen. They are easy to care for and can grow to hang or climb.
Other names for the sterling silver plant include:
- Sterling Silver Scindapsus
- Treubii Moonlight
- Scindapsus moonlight
- Moonlight pothos (though it is not a pothos!)
- Sterling Silver Pothos (see above, lol)
I will use these names interchangeably!
These plants were originally native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Is the Sterling Silver Scindapsus rare?
These plants may have been rare in the past, but they are now widely available at Lowes and Home Depot, which is my marker for saying a plant is not rare, haha!
This plant was a part of the 2021 Costa Farms’ Trending Tropicals collection and since then has been easy and affordable to buy. I see them every time I go to Home Depot!
Is Treubii Moonlight toxic?
Yes – this plant is toxic if eaten. Keep it away from pets and kids!
Is a Treubii Moonlight a pothos?
No, this plant is not a pothos, though it is often (incorrectly) referred to as one.
How fast do Treubii grow?
These plants can grow quickly in the right conditions. The leaves can also grow huge – especially if allowed to climb upwards!
If your plant is slow growing and it is growing season – spring and summer – consider moving it to a slightly brighter location to see if that helps!
However, in the winter and fall, it is normal for this to be a very slow growing plant. Have patience and keep it happy and you will reap the rewards when the weather warms up!
Treubii Moonlight Care guide
Sterling Silver plant water needs
Water your plant when the top two inches of the soil dries out. For me, it’s about once a week. But, this varies depending on the temperature and humidity. Always test the soil with your finger and don’t water if it still feels wet.
How often should I water my Sterling Silver plant?
Plan to water your plant every 1-2 weeks – the more light and heat it gets, the more often it will need to be watered.
Should I mist my Treubii Moonlight?
These tropical plants love humidity and will really love you for misting them regularly! Also consider adding a pebble tray of water or using a humidifier to keep them happiest.
Sterling Silver plant lighting needs
These plants thrive in bright indirect light. Keep them close to a window for the best growth rate!
Sterling Silver plants will grow in lower light, they just won’t thrive. Consider a grow light if you don’t have a great spot for it to get natural light!
Can I keep a Treubii Moonlight outdoors?
If you place them outdoors in direct sunlight, the leaves can get sunburned. Instead, if you want to keep them outdoors, put them in slight shade to avoid burn!
Sterling silver plant potting/soil needs
These plants don’t like soggy roots, so use well draining soil. You may want to mix in some orchid bark or similar into the potting mix to make your soil chunkier with more room for the water to drain out.
Always be sure that your pot has proper drainage holes to avoid pooling water, which can lead to root rot and the death of your plant!
Finally, if you plan to let your plant grow long branches, be sure the pot is heavy! Light weight plastic pots can be tipped over by long trailing plants (haha, ask me how I know!)
Does Treubii moonlight like to be root bound?
Yes, these plants are content to be root bound, so you do not need to repot them very often.
Treubii Moonlight propagation
Sterling Silver plants can be easily propagated by cuttings. Make sure that your cutting has a leaf node and place it in moist soil, moss, or water. Roots take a while to form – it could be a few months!

How do you make a Scindapsus bushier?
The best way to make these plants bushier is to take cuttings. Cut off any long, leggy branches. Place them in water or soil to propagate and the plant will focus growth back towards the base!
Why did my sterling silver plants leaves start fading?
Faded leaves are usually a sign of too much sun, verging on sunburn! Move the plant out of the direct sunlight and the new growth should have that signature silver sheen.
Why did my Sterling Silver Scindapsus’ leaves start curling?
If your leaves are curled under, that is usually a sign of under-watering. Check to be sure the soil feels dry, and then give it a good water.
How big do Sterling Silver Scindapsus Plants get?
The branches can grow several feet long, especially if they are allowed to climb!
